Breaking Genres: How Wisecrack Became an International Hit
Described by The Guardian as “the new Baby Reindeer,” Wisecrack blends two of podcasting’s most powerful genres, comedy and true crime, to explore deeper themes like mental health, masculinity, and the criminal justice system. The hit limited series from Tenderfoot TV and iHeartPodcasts has become an international success story, with four of its top five markets outside the United States, including London as its #1 global market.
Since launching last fall, Wisecrack has become one of the most awarded podcasts of the year, earning five Ambie wins including Podcast of the Year and the International Impact Award, along with an iHeartPodcast Awards win for Best Crime Podcast. It is also currently in development as a fictional television adaptation.
This panel pulls back the curtain on both the business and creative journey behind the show, from development and partnership strategy to marketing, live touring, and the path to TV adaptation. Join stand-up comedian and writer Edd Hedges, host Jodi Tovay, and Executive Producer Donald Albright for a conversation about building a genre-defying podcast with global impact.
