Narrative Podcasts: How to make the Difficult Doable

20 May 2026
The Studio Stage

Invisible Hands was a story about the history of free market capitalism. Sounds boring? But in the words of the review in the Telegraph it was “anything but”. That’s because the team behind the show used the devices of great narrative podcasting to make a narrative thriller about an idea. That’s why the podcast was named one of the top ten podcasts of the year by The New Yorker. In this session the panel will lift the lid on how they did it. Through the initial idea, story development and commissioning process we will explore why you should keep going even when it seems like your idea is too difficult.

Audience members will leave with an insight into the intricacy and sheer hard work of story structure and why it’s so important to have a host who is connected to the story.
