Short Form Podcasts Sponsored by Beams.fm
Why are podcast lengths getting shorter? While some podcasts may last for hours and hours, there’s a new trend of bite-size shows designed for a regular quick fix. Whether it’s bonus episodes to keep the feed happy, a condensed edit of a longer show or a bespoke daily hit, short-form podcasts are perfect for time poor audiences or those of us with short attention spans. But which ideas work best for short-form shows? How creative can you be in such a short amount of time? And can these shows find a younger, engaged audience when there’s so much competition in the podcast space? To discuss the challenges, benefits and revenue opportunities of short-form audio, are Olly Mann, co-presenter on the daily history show The Retrospectors. Nicky Birch, commissioner of short form pods for BBC Sounds who helped launch the successful 5 Minutes On news podcast, and Andrew Davies, Digital and Engagement Editor at ABC Audio Studios/Radio National, who’s been working on the development and piloting of short-form shows.
