Mel Bunce is Head of the Journalism Department at City, University of London – the largest, and best ranked journalism school in the UK.

In 2023, City launched the UK’s first dedicated MA Podcasting degree, working closely with industry leaders to identify the skills and knowledge that the degree should cover, and to find scholarship funding and work experience for students.

Next year, City will host its first Podcaster in Residence, and will offer a series of short courses to those working in the podcasting industry, to develop their skills.   

When she’s not talking about podcasting or education, Mel is a Professor of International Journalism, with research interests in new technology and journalism practice, international reporting, and media freedom.

Her research has explored how digital media and new technology are transforming journalist practice and her new book is called Capturing The News: Trump and the Voice of America
