Mohit Bakaya was appointed Controller of BBC Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra in July 2019.  Alongside that role, he became Director, Speech Audio in May 2022 with responsibility for the overall plans and strategy for the BBC’s speech audio content.

Mohit joined Radio 4’s commissioning team in 2008 as Commissioning Editor, Factual; taking the editorial and strategic lead on the network’s history, current affairs, religion, natural history and science output. 

Before that he was editor of Night Waves, Radio 3's live, daily, arts and ideas programme.  As editor, he launched Undercurrents, a weekly topical ideas programme, and went onto to help set up and run Free Thinking, an annual festival of ideas.

Mohit joined BBC Radio in 1993 as a trainee producer.  He worked as producer on Kaleidoscope on Radio 4 before going on to launch Front Row in 1998.  In 1996, he won a Sony Award for his first full length documentary Ashes in Ganges. 

BBC Radio 4 was named Station of the Year at the Audio and Radio Industry Awards (ARIAs) in 2023.
