Nemone Metaxas

Nemone Metaxas

Broadcaster, DJ & Psychotherapist, BBC
Nemone has been at the forefront of UK national broadcasting for 25 years, with the last twenty four at the BBC. She is a familiar daytime voice on BBC 6 Music but her passion for dance music led to curating a specialist show (Nemone’s Electric Ladyland) for the best part of the last decade.

Before her career in broadcasting, Nemone’s fascination with the complexities of the human mind and how we relate to one another led to her completing a Psychology BSc at Manchester University. A lifetime spent listening and talking to people in the interests of hearing and communicating their story compelled her to return to study Psychotherapy later in life, gaining her masters and she now also sees clients on a weekly basis for a range of issues.

As a fully qualified psychotherapist, Nemone is an insightful interviewer and vocal champion of mental health issues. During the pandemic, she was the first to bring breathing and grounding exercises to a broader audience via BBC 6 Music. Building on her psychotherapeutic background, she now hosts her award winning Journeys in Sound series: a more intimate enquiry into our relationship with music, interviewing musicians about the experiences that have shaped who they are. Series 8 returns to BBC Sounds and BBC 6 Music in May 2024 with a special programme dedicated to the effects of online abuse experienced by musicians and artists. From May 2024, as resident psychotherapist on the ‘Shrink The Box’ podcast, alongside co-host actor and screenwriter Ben Bailey Smith, she’ll put tv’s favourite characters into therapy such as Frasier, Moira in Schitt’s Creek, Sydney Adamu from The Bear and Tommy Shelby from Peaky Blinders.

Nemone has collaborated with and consulted for organisations like London’s Science Museum, Help Musicians, Scottish Ensemble, Arts Foundation, How the Light Gets In Festival, Mixcloud, The Box Museum in Plymouth, Glasgow’s Resonate Music Conference,  IMS (International Music Summit) in Ibiza and hosted the inaugural Mastery Series at Earth Hackney in London in December, 2023.

Her unique skill set has led her to DJ alongside, appear on panels with and interview a wide range of guests including Paul Weller, Self Esteem, Lizzo, Cillian Murphy, Stella Creasy MP, Soulwax, Marshall Jefferson, 808 State, Kelly Lee Owen’s and Hannah Peel.

As she continues to run her own successful sold out  bi-annual club night in Hammersmith, when she’s not engaged in therapeutic or musical activities elsewhere she can be found maintaining her own mental health by swimming in the lakes of west London.
